My question is based around fetishism and fertility objects, the influences of power figures in cultures concerning body image. My practical work is going to explore the more relic side of the symbols- i intend to create some of my own in ceramics and will support this work with a visual journal exploring relics and statues of power figures.
images of the venus of willendorf is going to relate heavily and link all the aspects of my essay and practical work together- it combines the relic concept with the whole idea of placing meaning on an object and relating them to a culture that it wasn't a part of 'venus' being greek religion yet the statue predating such.
My topic hasn't changed but has more developed from an in depth delve into the kardashians lives and their influence into including a historical viewpoint and culture comparison to give it a lot more in-depth informed knowledge. I know i need to keep in mind that i am looking at this research project from a very privileged western perspective with a western filter and conditioning on me- i intend to be open minded and not make any judgement on cultural differences.
I will also look at authenticity and the male gaze and how influential that is as a filter put on society in what happens in media and male dominated cultures especially, such as films in western society comparing to Chinese culture which is very male dominated in a more political way- the difference in power and the power dynamics.
